Australia is stuck with rising unemployment, sticky inflation and poor productivity. After several years of prioritising its full-employment mandate, it appears that the Reserve Bank of Australia is now choosing to focus on returning inflation to target even if it comes at the cost of an economic downturn or even a recession. Economists will argue that the alternative, unanchored inflation, would be worse.
