The latest data from the ABS today pretty much cemented a rate rise on Melbourne Cup day as the trimmed mean inflation – the RBA’s preferred measure, which strips out the most volatile items in the inflation basket – rose from 3.6 per cent in the June quarter to 3.7 per cent in the September quarter.
