This is our weekly market update where we start in the US, cross to Europe and Asia and end in Australia, covering commodities and crypto along the way. US markets were closed on Friday thanks to the July 4 Independence Day celebrations. Both the S&P 500 and NASDAQ Composite closed at record highs on Thursday though futures slid the next day. The Dow also rallied on Thursday. On Friday the pan-European STOXX 600 index closed 0.5 per cent lower, clocking a marginal weekly fall.
